My application of the category 'Digital Exercise' is for works that move in multiple directions at once from the same photographic capture. In the case of the work below, all five versions are derived from blending the same filter five different ways. I only arrived at this stage late in the process, after multiple filters, digital layers, and three composites had already been applied. Ordinarily, it's very clear to me what filters and what blends create the best version of any given work. But once in a while, any fork in the road produces a desirable outcome. Sometimes I will produce completely separate works that look completely different. Any of the five versions below could be a stand-alone work in and of itself. Sometimes just a slight tweak creates a series of completely different but clearly related 'possibilities', and that's what we have here. If one is remarkably better than the others it wasn't easily apparent to me. Look at the second composite below to see details of the larger works; look how the details of the leaves in each version are distinctive and dynamic. An exercise in seeing the world from different perspectives. The art of diversity.
